Autoscroll page with jQuery

There are times when it’s really useful for a webpage to scroll up and down automatically. For instance when showing information on a TV screen you may not want to scroll manually. Using jQuery its possible to have the page automatically scroll down at a set speed then scroll back to the top and repeat.

jQuery must be included before the follow code, this can be placed in a document.ready call or placed in an js file I’m using a file called app.js I have a bunch of placeholder text to beef up the page content so there is something to scroll against:

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
  <meta charset="utf-8">
  <title>Auto Scroll with jQuery</title>
  <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css">
</head>
<body>

<h1>Auto Scroll with jQuery</h1>

<script data-cfasync="false" src="jquery.js"></script>
<script data-cfasync="false" src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

The important code is inside app.js:

//scroll to bottom
setInterval(function(){

    //time to scroll to bottom
    $("html, body").animate({ scrollTop: $(document).height() }, 1000);

    //scroll to top
    setTimeout(function() {
       $('html, body').animate({scrollTop:0}, 8000);
    },2000);//call every 2000 miliseconds

},2000);//call every 2000 miliseconds

setInterval accepts 2 params the first is a function, the second is a time to repeat. Inside the function a call to animate is made which will animate the body of the page and scroll th the bottom of the document as a speed of 1000 microseconds adjust this to suit your page contents.

Next a setTimeout exists to animate back to the top of the page at a speed of 8000 microseconds.
